Government Twitter accounts fall silent after shutdown

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WALB) -

While many Americans choose to vent about the federal government shutdown on social media, accounts created for federally funded programs have fallen silent.

Federally funded agencies like the National Park Service, NOAA, and NASA sent tweets Tuesday morning on Twitter, announcing they would largely not be sending or responding to posts.

Ironically, two federally funded agencies directly related to the shutdown celebrated an anniversary Tuesday. NASA was created 55 years ago with the launch of the space race, and Yosemite National Park opened up to the public 123 years ago. Both have been shut down due to lack of appropriations.

The locations below are some, but not all of the Twitter accounts that are no longer posting due to the government shutdown.
