Woman's car explodes overnight in east Toledo

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Fire crews say a woman's car burst into flames overnight in her east Toledo home, destroying her car and garage.

The fire started just after midnight in the 600 block of Reineck Drive. The homeowner says she woke up to the sound of an explosion coming from her garage. Another woman inside the home says she woke up to her small dog barking when she too heard an explosion coming from the garage.

By the time firefighters arrived, the entire garage door was completely burned through, as well as the woman's 2012 Jeep Compass. The 2012 Jeep Compass was recalled due to faulty fuel tank vales because they increase the risk of fire.

Flames from the fire traveled up portions of the home's roof, but fire crews were able to put out the fire before it could destroy the entire home.

An investigator was called out to the scene by officials to try and figure out what caused the woman's car to explode.
