TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

The city of Tifton is going pink during the month of October.

On Monday many businesses and government agencies were busy decorating storefronts and offices in pink.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Tifton Merchants Association and Main Street program leaders believe the decorations will help raise awareness of the disease which has hit close to home for some business owners.

"A friend of my mine had breast cancer," recalled store owner Kathy Allen. "She has had it for two years. She has had it taken care of and she is remission. Now I just found out another friend of mine just had surgery."

There will also be a number of events during October in Tifton including a bra decorating contest Tuesday and a live auction on October 24th at the Tifton Elks Lodge.
