OTTAWA, IL (WALB) -

An Albany native won a gold medal last week in a parachute competition near Chicago.

Skydiver Chris Gay won the medal in the canopy formation competition of the 2013 U.S Parachute Association National Skydiving Championships. The competition took place at Skydive Chicago, an hour west of the Windy City.

According to a release, canopy formation skydiving teams of four deploy their parachutes immediately after jumping from the plane and build formations as quickly as possible while holding onto each other's canopies. A videographer flies alongside to capture the action.

Chris Gay, 48, has been skydiving since 1986 and has completed 15,000 skydives.

Gay's team, Clean Air, have earned coveted slots on the U.S Parachute Team, which will represent the United States at next year's World Parachuting Championships.
