ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Albany Fire Department rescued three people in a boat along the Flint river Sunday.

A group of people, and their dog, were out fishing in their boat when they hit a rock in the river. The rock punctured a hole in the bottom of their 15-foot bass boat.

Luckily, one of them had a cell phone with them, and used it to call for help. The AFD picked them up in their boat around 4:30pm. No one was injured.

Officials say the river is lower during this time year, and its important for people to watch for rocky areas.

"Its definitely an unavoidable accident, especially throughout this time of year, throughout the summer months when its extremely shallow, they obviously had their life jackets inside the boat which is a good thing if they started taking on water or started sinking which I understand that is immediately what they did," says Corporal Robbie Griner, with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

He says its important to make sure you always keep life jackets, and a fire extinguisher, inside your boat.
