ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A unique mentoring program in Leesburg is teaching young people important life lessons through horseback riding.

Inner City Slickers of Leesburg held its grand opening Saturday at Serenity Stables. The program was inspired by the movie "City Slickers". During the day camp, kids learned how to ride, rope, groom, and feed horses. It's meant to teach kids how to work hard and be responsible. Parents say these skills will help kids in their everyday life.

"To have trust in the horses and other people and rely on God and trust your posse," said Mikayla White.

"There some similarities in trusting when you're dealing with horses so it compliments exactly what where trying to teach her at home. Good ethics, good moral background and good Christian background," said Marva White.

Inner City Slickers is a nationwide organization. If you are interested in being notified to participate in future events, or would like more information on how to help, please contact Lori McCalvin at 229.395.8860. Serenity Stables is located at 493 GA HWY 32 in Leesburg.
