ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

An effort to keep at-risk children in Dougherty County out of trouble will be featured on national television next month.

Friday, the Sheriff talked to school board about his office's ongoing crime prevention and anti-drug efforts in the school system.

His program got grabbed the attention of the producer's of the A&E series "beyond Scared Straight" and will be featured on the November 21st episode.  But the sheriff says that's just part of their efforts to be a positive influence on kids.

"All of these kids belong to all of us in Dougherty County and the more we can do for these children, these teenagers to help mold them into a better person.  To help deflect that interference that's out there on the streets, that's what we want to try to do," said Sheriff Kevin Sproul, Dougherty County Sheriff's Office.

Sproul can't say too much about the show before it airs.

His office's programs are paid for through fundraisers, not tax money.  For more information on the programs or to make a donation, call the Dougherty County Sheriff's Office at (229) 431-2169.
