VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

300 Moody airmen are on their way to southwest Asia Friday night. Moody officials will not disclose their destination until they land.

As the airmen waited to deploy late Friday afternoon, many of them made last minute phone calls, searched the Internet, and took naps. The airmen deploying are with the 75th Fighter Squadron and the 41st Rescue Squadron. Many say they're nervous to enter a war zone, but are excited to get the job done and come home safe.

"Bottom line is to save lives. The first time I went into the Air Force Academy that was the first thing I wanted to do, be a rescue pilot. It worked out so now I'm a rescue pilot and the mission is noble. It's probably one of the most noble missions in the military," said Captain Przemyslaw Strekowski.

"You learn to just put it in the back of your mind, and just go there with a positive attitude and make the best of everything," said Sr. Airman, Jonathon Reischmann.

The airmen will return home in 6 to 8 months.
