Worth County family displaced by house fire

WORTH CO., GA (WALB) -

A Worth county family has been displaced after a fire spread from a house they were using for storage to the home they were living in.

Fire crews responded to the fully involved 100 year old farm house on the 500 block of WH Odom road around 7:30 Thursday night.

The fire ripped through Kendra Odom's farm house there. Her husband spent Friday putting out hot spots at the still smoldering home that burned to the ground.

Firefighters say they were able to save a dog, but several cats died. Odom says she was feeding her horse when she saw smoke coming from her house.

"I tossed my carrots up in the air and I ran inside and told my husband my house was on fire, and this is what I got," recalls Odom.

While the stored items from the house were destroyed, the family's mobile home nearby is said to be livable after repairs.

The exact cause of the fire has not been determined, but officials say there were no indications of arson. No injuries were reported.
