Investigators in Ben Hill county are urging parents to monitor their children's interactions on social networks after reports of a registered sex offender targeting pre-teens.

Last week they received complaints from parents about a man who was pursuing "inappropriate interactions" with the minors. Investigators said they were able link a registered sex offender to the claims.

While the case is still under investigation and charges are pending law enforcement says parents in Ben Hill County and surrounding areas need to make sure they are aware of who their children are befriending on social networks.

"There is indication that this offender has contacted children in other jurisdictions," said Ben Hill Sheriff's Investigator Patrick Hogan. "What we would like is for parents to sit down and speak with their children and go through each individual contact that your child has."

Not only did the person create a page posing as a minor investigators say it appears that he created an entire family. Ben hill county officials want parents to alert law enforcement if they suspect suspicious behavior on their children's social networking profiles.
