Mosely recommended to keep part-time status

The Rules Committee of the Georgia Board of Education has recommended that the board approve a request that Interim Superintendent Dr. David Mosely continue working with the school system part time.

This comes after Rules Committee met with school officials Wednesday afternoon in Atlanta to discuss the school systems request for a waiver in the matter.

It would allow the retired interim superintendent, to continue working as a 49% employee.

A new law prohibits Mosely from collecting his state retirement benefits if he works full time for the system. School board members are hoping to extend his contract until June as they search for a permanent replacement.

If the waiver is not approved, Mosely has the option to come out of retirement. School board members will then likely offer Mosely a raise to make up for some of the retirement income he will lose.
