VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

A teacher at Valdosta high school has been arrested after Police say he pushed and attempted to hit a student.

Randell Owens is charged with Simple Battery and has been placed on administrative leave by the school.

According to a report, Police say Owens was standing in front of a locker room door in the hallway when a student attempted to open the door, hitting Owens.

Police say Owens then turned and swung his elbow at the student who blocked the elbow with his hand. Owens then pushed the student back into the locker room.

After interviews by Police, Owens turned himself in to the Lowndes County Jail and was later released on bond.
