ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Bids to complete the last phase of terminal improvement construction at the Southwest Georgia Regional Airport came in higher than what airport officials and engineers expected.

The money from the two bids the airport received are going to be used to demolish and remove the old terminal building to replace it with parking lots and resurface the parking lots they already have. It will also be used to expand the aircraft parking apron. Airport officials are meeting with contractors to examine the items they need and what they may not be able to afford. However, The Airport Director says they're still on track for airport construction.

"We hope that everybody will remain patient with us," said Airport Director Yvette Aehle. "It's not something that we'd like to. We'd love to be able to award everything that we put in our bid package, but unfortunately that's not available with the limited amount of money that we were able to get from the FAA as well as the SPLOST proceeds that we have paying for this part of the project."

Bid numbers will be disclosed and approved at next Monday's Aviation Commission meeting and then again at the City Commission meeting on October15th.
