Board to vote on DOE meetings about Savannah River
SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -
A citizens advisory board is wrapping
up a two-day meeting in the Coastal Empire.
Members are voting on a formal
recommendation calling on the U.S. Department of Energy to hold meetings in the
Savannah-Beaufort area to discuss downstream environmental threats from the Savannah
The group said 37 million gallons of radioactive waste is
still being stored in massive aging tanks, presenting a threat to groundwater
at the site and to the Savannah River itself.
