Man charged with homicide by vehicle in Camden County

CAMDEN CO., GA (WTOC) -

The Camden County Sheriff's Office says they arrested a St. Marys man Tuesday and charged him with homicide by vehicle, among several other charges.

Richard Madria Ezzard, 24, was taken into custody and charged with homicide by vehicle, reckless driving, driving under the influence (1st offense) and failure to maintain lane as the result of a wreck that occurred just before 11 p.m. on Sunday at the intersection of Charlie Smith Sr. Highway and Mush Bluff Road. Initial reports indicate the Honda Odyssey driven by Ezzard struck a tree at a high rate of speed, according to CCSO.

Officials say the passenger in the vehicle, Salvatore Hauser, 21, of St. Marys, was ejected from the vehicle and transported from the scene but later died from his injuries at Shands in Jacksonville, Fla.

Camden County Fire Rescue responded to the scene.

GSP is handling the investigation.
