ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Forty medals in the span of 10 years-- that's what athlete Antron Shepherd has to show since joining Albany ARC, a center that works with people with disabilities. Every year they put together Special Olympics for members, it promotes sports training and athletic competition in basketball, bowling and several other sports.

"He did hit two home runs Saturday! I don't think anyone was expecting that, so you know, that's why he is really an all around athlete," Special Olympics Director, Chandra Wesley-Carr said.

She also says Shepherd is a team player and always goes the extra mile to make sure no one is left out.

Wesley-Carr continues, "They get together and they don't see each other's disabilities, just one big group, one big family."

Its his positive attitude that attracts his fellow athletes to keep pushing forward.

"Antron is always a friendly, pleasant person to be around and always wants to help doing whatever he can. And I know he's going to be so thrilled when he hears about this. We're real excited for him," Albany ARC Director, Sonja West said.

An athlete that holds the spirit of Special Olympics is all about.
