AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

An Augusta man who died in a motorcycle wreck Monday afternoon was fleeing from Richmond County deputies, according to Georgia State Patrol.

Jason Steven Ycaza, 30, was driving his motorcycle northbound on Windsor Spring Road when a Richmond County deputy noticed that Ycaza's motorcycle and another motorcycle didn't have license plates, according to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

When the deputy tried to pull over the two motorcyclists, they fled at a high rate of speed, according to the sheriff's office. The deputy decided to stop the pursuit.

Ycaza continued northbound on Windsor Spring Road and failed to stop for a red light at Rosier Road, according to the sheriff's office. He crashed into a vehicle making a left turn and was thrown from his motorcycle.
