SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -
In an effort to unite West Savannah neighborhoods with each other, the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department held a "Unity in the Community" event on Saturday.
Folks enjoyed food, candy, a bicycle giveaway and a mini job fair. The event was held at the city's Fellwood Park.
"That's one of the purposes of this, is to make sure they feel comfortable talking to the police. And this is one of the ways, you see we got games and eats and all kinds of things going on. It builds a comradery between the community and the police, which makes it easier for us to communicate," said SCMPD Police Chief Willie Lovett.
Savannah Impact Program (SIP) also offered a mini job fair. SIP works with probationers and parolees to provide job training and avenues of employment.
