BLOOMINGDALE, GA (WTOC) -

The race for mayor and City Council is in full swing in Bloomingdale, with a dose of small-town intrigue.

Police are investigating reports of more than 70 yard signs for political candidates stolen over the weekend.

"Stealing is stealing, and it is a crime," Bloomingdale Police Chief Roy Pike said. "And we're investigating it, and we're going to continue to investigate it, and we're going to continue to investigate it until it comes to a conclusion."

Mayoral Candidate Jerry Crosby had his signs stolen, along with several incumbent council members.

Police also have received reports that a challenger for City Council had her car egged.
Crosby says this is no prank.

"It's just taking away the rights of Americans to do what they're supposed to do," he said. "That's what really burns me up, is the fact that in a small town, where supposedly everybody knows everybody, we have 14 churches in this town, and that's enough churches for everybody to be a practicing Christian."
