CHICAGO (RNN) – Kevin Trudeau, a TV pitchman and author, spent Wednesday night in jail for failing to pay $37.6 million sanction for making deceptive marketing claims while reportedly living a extravagant lifestyle, according to media reports.
Trudeau claims he has no assets and can't pay the fine.
However, the Federal Trade Commission said Trudeau failed to disclose an Australian bank account and that he was spending money lavishly, including more than $350 on haircuts and more than $900 on cigars.
"This is not an infomercial. You can't talk your way out of this," the judge told Trudeau in court Wednesday.
Trudeau is author of a number of books touting solutions "they don't want you to know about," including Free Money They Don't Want you to Know About, Natural Cures They Don't Want You to Know About and Debt Cures They Don't Want You to Know About.
