NEWTON COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Students at South Salem Elementary School are staying inside for recess after potentially dangerous animals were spotted nearby.

Newton County Schools spokeswoman Sherri Viniard initially said foxes were spotted in an area near Liberty Middle School and South Salem Elementary School - but later told CBS Atlanta News that it may have been a coyote that was spotted.

This comes several months after two young boys were attacked by a fox outside of Rocky Plains Elementary School during recess in the same district.

Viniard said the district is working with a wildlife specialist to find the best way to deal with the animals.

But Audree Schiebrel, whose 3-year-old son Matthew attends South Salem Elementary, said she is deeply concerned about her son's safety but doesn't think it's fair to take recess away from the kids.

"Taking away recess is punishment to the kids," Schiebrel said. "They could set up a fence area where the (animals) can't get into it."
