LOWNDES COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

A young man hit and killed by a semi-truck on I-75 was a Valdosta State University student.

Troopers say early Tuesday morning, Marcus Holmes stepped into the roadway near mile marker 19 and was struck.

He had no identification on him and no vehicle was found in the area.

Holmes was wearing Cairo High School gym clothing which helped authorities identify him.

"The driver of the UPS truck, whenever he noticed the pedestrian in the roadway he was unable to avoid impact with the pedestrian. There's no indication of alcohol or intoxicants involved in the crash at this time," said Sgt. Carl Taylor, GSP.

Officials say Holmes lived in The Grove Apartments right next to I-75.

His car was found in the parking lot there.

Early Tuesday around 1:00 AM, a pedestrian walking northbound on I-75 stepped into the roadway and was struck by a semi truck and killed.

Late Tuesday afternoon, he was identified as Valdosta State University Student Marcus Holmes. He lived in The Grove Apartments right near I-75.

Holmes was wearing dark athletic clothing and had no identification and no vehicle was found in the area.

The accident happened at mile marker 19. GSP is still investigating.
