National child passenger safety week

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Experts are urging parents to make sure you properly secure your children every time they get in a car.

This is National Child Passenger Safety Week. Experts say you need to make sure you buy the right size car seat for your child.

Also, children up to age two should be in rear-facing safety seats. Health officials say that provides the best protection.

"Because of the structure of the child body build if they are forward facing the child head and neck can come forward and they can actually break their neck if they turn around and forward facing too early," says Artiszell Washington with the Dougherty County Health Department.

The Dougherty County Health Department holds classes every month to teach parents the proper way to install car seats. You can get more information by calling 229-430-6280.
