ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A Lee County native is celebrating a top 10 finish in the Miss America Pageant. Miss Georgia Carly Mathis had a great showing Sunday night. Mathis sang On my Own during the talent portion of Sunday night's competition.

Her grandparents, Hilton and Chris Gillespie, say they spoke with her just before the competition started, and said a quick prayer for her.

During the competition, the Gillespies say they got lots of positive comments on their facebook page from people across the country who support Carly.

"Just how very proud we are of her and how thankful we are that she had good support," says Chris Gillespie.

"I go to the YMCA three times a week and all the people at the YMCA this morning were talking how proud they were that she went so far," says Hilton Gillespie.

They say Carly plans to go to law school, and wants to become a CNN legal analyst.
