ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Hundreds of Albany High students gathered on their school's softball field this afternoon to release balloons in honor of the victims who lost their lives on 9/11.

About 200 hundred balloons were released at Albany High School today; students also gave a donation to the victims of the house fire that took place on West Lincoln this past Wednesday.

One student leader says the reason they held this event was to let people know that Albany High school students do remember and honor the lives lost 12 years ago.

"We came out here to show that Albany High does remember and honor all the people that died in 9/11, that all affected, and we also wanted to give honor to a family whose house burned down not too long ago," said Nasya Blackwell, student, Albany High School.

This was the first year Albany High School put on this event, they plan to do it again next year.
