New technology helps healthcare specialist diagnose concussions

The Phoebe Foundation and Phoebe Orthopedic Specialty Group now has some new technology that will help healthcare specialist diagnose concussions on the sidelines.

This new technology is called the ImPACT computerized cognitive assessment tool.

It gives healthcare providers important data used in evaluating when or if an athlete has a concussion, and when that athlete can return to the game. Healthcare leaders say this new tool makes healthcare specialist duties a little easier.

"Something like Impact coupled with a system of trainers, sports physicians, and knowledgeable and educated coaches parents and athletes really allows us to comprehensively minimize missed concussions, catch them early, treat them early, then get them back to playing fully, quickly, and not have to miss a season or game unnecessarily," said Kiyoshia Yamazaki, Sports Medicine Physician, Phoebe Orthopedic Specialty Group.

Funds for this new tool were made possible through the Phoebe Foundation.
