Agents search for more clues in Newton homicide

Posted: Updated:

Investigators are searching a home for more clues after the death of a man in Newton.

Authorities say the body of William Land, 87, was found Tuesday at his Clearlake Road home during a wellness check.

On Thursday the Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced the death was being treated as a homicide.

GBI agents executed a search warrant at another home less than one mile from Land's residence Friday morning.

GBI Special Agent in Charge Kim Baker told WALB that no arrest had been made, but the investigation at the home at 361 West Broad Avenue was in connection to the murder of Land.

Agents would not say who lived at the home or what they were looking for.

Land's body was taken to the GBI crime lab in Macon for an autopsy. Authorities have not released a cause of death.

No suspects have been named. Anyone with information about the death of Land is asked to contact the Newton Police Department at (229) 734-5331 or GBI Sylvester at (229) 777-2080.
