ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Authorities are searching for a man who led troopers on a high speed chase, then crashed and took off on foot.

Troopers were conducting a child occupancy road check at the intersection of Red Budd and Radium Springs Road tonight, when a man driving a Black 2006 Chevy Equinox made a U-turn to avoid the check.

Troopers say they followed the driver, stopped him and while they were checking his identification he drove off leading troopers on a chase down Oakridge Drive.

Authorities say after a pit maneuver was performed the driver clipped a light pole...the wire came down, and hit the patrol car.

The driver of the S-U-V crawled out of the back window and took off on foot.
"The subject was last seen wearing a multi stripe polo shirt, gray sweat pants, subject has gold in top and bottom teeth, that's correct he has active warrants at this time and there will be other warrants following,"said Darryl Benton, Senior Trooper, Georgia State Patrol Post 40.

The trooper who was driving that patrol car that was damaged was not injured. If you have any information that can help authorities track down this man, call Georgia State Patrol at 229-430-6585.
