VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Volunteers in Valdosta are gearing up for the second annual "The Clock is Ticking" 7 mile swim in honor of a 17-year-old who drowned more than two years ago.

All proceeds for the swim will go to the James Eunice Charity Fund.

James was a beloved Valdosta Wildcat athlete who drowned in a Lowndes County pond in January 2011. Rescuers spent 17 days searching for him. Organizers hope to honor James' legacy and love for life with a fun and challenging swim competition.

"That 17 day search for James, while we were down there in January 2011, the community rallied around us, they were just so wonderful to us. So the money raised here allows us to give back to the community in a variety of ways," said father, John Eunice.

The swim ranges from 1 mile to 7 miles at Long Pond in Lake Park. To find out how you can register CLICK HERE.
