VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Animals lovers: get ready for the largest pet adoption event for a south Georgia animal rescue group.

Friday through Sunday in Valdosta, BARC Humane Society will have its annual PetSmart Adopt-A-Thon. More than 60 dogs and cats will be up for adoption outside PetSmart at the Valdosta Mall.

BARC is the largest animal rescue group in the Lowndes County area. They take sick, injured, and newborn pets from local shelters before they're euthanized. Last year the group saved 600 animals.

"This is one of the biggest events that we have all during the year, and we hope that we can get a lot of participation out there to help save some more animals. The animals just don't deserve this," said BARC President, Charles DeVane.

The rescue group is also in desperate need of donations, supplies, and foster parents. Again, the adoption event will be at the Valdosta PetSmart from 10 AM to 6 PM Friday through Sunday. To find out how you can get involved with BARC CLICK HERE.
