GBI calls Newton death a homicide


The Sylvester Office of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation says that the death of William Land, approximately 87, in Newton is being treated as a homicide.

His body was discovered Tuesday when a wellness check was conducted by Newton/Baker County law enforcement at his home at 241 Clearlake Road.

Newton Police Chief Jesse Rivers requested assistance from the GBI in conducting a death investigation.

Land's body was transported to the GBI Crime lab in Macon where an autopsy was conducted.
