Two taken to hospital after GSP wreck

Georgia State Patrol says a Trooper is recovering at a hospital after being involved in a crash just outside Tifton Wednesday afternoon.

It happened on Tifton Eldorado Road around 2:40 p.m. GSP says one cruiser and one other vehicle were involved in the crash.

According to officials, Tavaris Byron, 18, of Tifton was driving south on the road in a 1999 Mercury Sable. GSP Trooper Richard Kennedy, 44, was traveling north.

Byron began to make a left turn onto a private driveway when the front end of Kennedy's cruiser hit the right side of the Sable. Both cars spun off the road and down an embankment.

Kennedy and Byron were taken to Tift Regional Hospital for injuries. Kennedy was released a short time later. Both drivers are expected to be okay.

Byron was charged with failure to yield and driving without a sufficient licence. A report said he only had a learner's permit.
