ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

To thank the men and women who serve our country and community, the three Albany-area Chick-fil-A restaurants are hosting Hometown Heroes Day today, until 3:00 p.m.

All uniformed active and retired military, firefighters, police officers and first responders are invited for a free Chick-fil-A Meal, which includes an entrée of choice, a side item and a beverage.

The Albany Chick-Fil-A owner/operators, for the fourth year in a row, declared September 11th it's "Hometown Heroes day" and today served free lunch to all the law enforcement, EMS, and military members in uniform.

 They also served the Marines, who do not wear their uniforms off base.  Chick-Fil-A says it's just their way to say "thank you" for their service.  Law enforcement officers say that is something they often don't hear from the community very often.

"It is very fulfilling to help the men and women who put their lives on the line for our county and our community," said Chick-fil-A franchise Operator K. J. Wari. "We hope they will come enjoy this small token of our appreciation for all that they do."

"Sometimes the reaction to each other is not as pleasant as they could be or should be because of everything that is going on.  So this helps to unite the community with law enforcement and first responders," said Ruby Long of the Ga. Department of Corrections.
