SHELLMAN, GA (WALB) -

A Randolph County Sheriff's deputy killed a rattlesnake right in front of a park where kids play in Shellman.

Deputy Steven Ogle was on patrol on Pain Avenue last week when he spotted the 5-foot long snake next to a city park. He pulled out his gun and killed the snake.

He's glad no kids were around and urges parents to examine the playground before letting your kids play. "If you're out here walking, or you got your kids and you're over at the playground, kind of make a little check around everything before you turn your kids loose out there," Ogle said.

A man who lives right across the street from the park says he's seen rattlesnakes in his back yard a lot.
