Georgia Firefighters Comment on Anniversary of September 11th Attacks

Posted: Updated:
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Many south Georgia organizations will hold events tomorrow to commemorate the anniversary of the September 11th attacks.

The Marine Corps Logistics Base will hold an observance ceremony on base tomorrow morning. There will also be a ceremony during a state firefighters conference that has drawn several hundred firefighters to Albany.

"It took a while for the reality to set in that many of our colleagues and firefighters and police had died at the hands of terrorists and that still rings true today and we know that men and women are still fighting for our freedom," says Lanier Swafford, President of the Georgia State Firefighters Association.

More than 300 New York City firefighters died in the terrorists attacks.
