Darton State College's initial lack of response to the hospitalization of three wrestlers overcome by heat and dehydration during practices is baffling.
So many questions need answers.
If coaches and trainers were following the college's heat policy, does that policy need to be changed? Did the wrestling coach push the students too hard? Did the coach and athletic director properly report what happened to other administrators?
Why did Darton leaders refuse to answer questions about what happened until three days after the first student was hospitalized?
And the most critical question . . . after one wrestler was rushed to the hospital last Tuesday, how is it possible that TWO wrestlers had to be rushed to the hospital the very next day?
We would like to see an independent commission appointed to answer those questions, investigate what happened, and to come up with ways to make sure it never happens again.
