Can you hear me now? Man pickets store over fees

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A Lee County man, whose three businesses are now defunct, is picketing Albany's Verizon cell phone store.

Steve McGowan used to own ABC Express Bail Bonds in Lee County, as well as an ankle monitoring service, and a wrecker truck company.  They are all out of business now, and he doesn't want to pay Verizon $240 each to cut off the service on three phones.

He says he is protesting what he calls unfair trade practices, and says Verizon won't do anything to help his situation, so he is picketing their business as a way to help other small business owner.

McGowan said that he's been a loyal Verizon customer for 20 years, and now he needs some loyalty from them.

McGowan started his picketing Monday, but was told he would have to obtain a license, which he did, and is now being seen by people who pass Verizon's office on busy Westover Boulevard.
