ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Saturday several dozen young people gathered together to remember the lives lost during 9-11.

High school students posted nearly a thousand flags and crosses in front of the Albany mall. It's tradition inspired by the American Legion, Post 30. They spent most of the morning putting up the flags around the Mall area.

Event coordinator Ray Humphrey says its an important part of history for young people to remember.

"Well it's important for people not forget, because if we don't continue to do something like this they're people now that whenever they were attacked in all that are in high school, these kids are growing up, and some of them have no remembrance of it, just like Pearl Harbor and other things when we were attacked, it's good for us to remember that, said Ray Humphrey, Commander, American Legion Post 30.

The anniversary of 9-11 is next Wednesday.
