ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
College is recognized by Fire Science Online as having one of the best first
responder programs in the country.
Albany Tech's Fire Science program teaches students how to save
lives. The program was named in a national online publication as one of the top
100 first responder programs in the country.
"So we have a goal to reach and we reached that goal. Our
last emergency medical class had a 100 pass rate," said Don Laye, Director
of Fire Science Technology Program.
Albany Tech offers 8 first responder's courses. Don Laye, Director
of the Fire Science Tech program, says it's the teachers that set this program
apart and they seek only the best.
"We make the point that our instructors have the in-service
education. Also reaching a level above and beyond," said Don Laye.
The first responder program at Albany Tech gets students ready for
their real jobs.
"We do live burns. We do all of the training with ladders,
search and rescue. We're excited about our training facility here. They get all
the hands on training they need," said Don Laye, Director of Fire Science
Albany Tech was selected out of 2,500 schools. In this growing
program, Don Laye believes graduates can take the skills they've learned and
use them anywhere.
"If they pass the national certification, not only in Albany
and Southwest Georgia area but anywhere in the United States," said Don
Laye says the program will continue to rise to the top.
Albany Tech officials say they have state of the art equipment
that instructors use to teach students.
According to Firescience.org, Albany Technical College ranks 87th on the list. 8 other colleges and universities from Georgia made the list.
