Motions underway in death penalty murder case

A former Dougherty County jailer made his latest appearance in a lengthy series of death penalty murder case hearings Friday morning.

Allen Robinson Jr. is charged with killing his girlfriend in November of 2008.

Prosecutors say he chased down Roshonda Dowell in the parking lot of an East Albany grocery store and stabbed her to death as horrified witnesses looked on.

Robinson and his lawyers arrived in court at 9 a.m.

A judge is hearing 118 motions in the pre-trial process. Officials got through just 10 before taking their first break.

Officials say Friday's hearing is one of many in the judicial process to make sure procedures are acceptable before a trial can start.

The prosecution and defense say they hope a trial can begin sometime next year.

WALB will have more on this story later this evening.
