Arrest made in Douglas murder

DOUGLAS, GA (WALB) -

One man is in custody, and is now charged with the murder of a Douglas woman. Julie Mae Simpson, 46, was found dead in her Leader Street home in June.

Victor Antoine Hodges has been charged with the murder of Simpson. Hodges is already in jail on other charges.

Douglas PD Detective Robert Sprinkle provided this news release-

On 06-07-2013 at approx. 8:42 Am Officers from the Douglas Police Department and Emergency Medical Services responded to 1500 Leader St. in Douglas Ga. in reference to a deceased person.

The deceased was identified as, 46 year old, Julie Mae Simpson. The scene indicated that Ms. Simpson did not die of natural causes.

Crime Scene Technicians from the Douglas Police Department and the Coffee County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene. Evidence collected by the Crime Scene Technicians was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations Division of Forensic Science (GBI Crime Lab) for processing. During the investigation Officers identified a person of interest.  

On 09-04-13, based on information and evidence obtained during the investigation, Warrants were obtained on Victor Antoine Hodges for the Murder of Julie Mae Simpson. Hodges is currently incarcerated, outside of Coffee County, on unrelated charges.

Hodges will be transported back to Coffee County within the next few days and formally charged. Charges include Malice Murder, Felony Murder, and Armed Robbery. The Douglas Police Department appreciates the assistance provided by the Coffee County Sheriff's Office, the GBI's Division of Forensic Science, and the Community.
