'CSI' actor, musician to host benefit concert for local Marine

(WMC-TV) - An actor from the popular crime show "CSI: NY" will be in Memphis hosting a benefit concert for a Munford Marine injured in the line of duty.

When Gary Sinise is not doubling as Mac Taylor in "CSI: NY", he is playing in the Lt. Dan Band, which tours the country raising money to build smart houses for injured veterans. Lt. Dan Band is named after the "Forrest Gump" character, also played by Sinise, who lost both of his legs during the Vietnam War.

On November 1, Sinise's band will play for a local Marine facing similar circumstances.

Corporal Christian Brown, nicknamed CB, was nearly killed in December 2011 when he stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED) while serving in Afghanistan. Both of his legs were amputated and he also suffered injuries to both of his hands and arms.

Brown is still on the road to recovery and is working to get accustomed to his new life.

The Gary Sinise Foundation is partnering with the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation to put on the concert, which will benefit and honor Cpl. Brown.

The concert will raise money to build Cpl. Brown a "smart home" in Munford that will be completely accessible.

"It is important to stop and pay tribute to those who have sacrificed the most to our country, like Cpl. Christian Brown," said Sinise. "I hope the folks in Memphis will attend the Benefit Concert which will help Chris reclaim his mobility and independence."

The concert will be held at Memphis Cook Convention Center on November 1 at 7 p.m.
