Sylvester Police report that a man who was cleaning a pistol, and another man nearby, had to be treated for gunshot wounds Wednesday.

Curtis Creel was holding a .40 caliber pistol in the kitchen of the Lakeview Drive house, when it discharged. The bullet hit his hand, and a cellphone, and lodged in Jonathan Long's thigh. Creel is a former detention officer with the Lee Co. Sheriff's Office.

Both men were taken to Phoebe Putney for treatment, and the wounds were not life-threatening.

The Sylvester Police Department issued this news release-
