THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

Investigators in Thomas County are looking for several thieves as their accused accomplice sits in jail.

They arrested 35-year old Harvey Merritt of Tallahassee around 11:30 Monday night as he ran from Williams Electric on East Lane.

Deputies responded to the business just two minutes after the silent alarm went off. The first deputy on the scene saw two or three other men running away.

"It's unclear exactly what was taken. They were in the process of trying to steal a truck. They had gone through the process of taking the truck. They had popped the steering column, had a trailer hooked up to it, and were about to leave with it when the deputy arrived," said Captain Steve Jones.

Merritt is charged with burglary and several traffic offenses.
