Albany State head coach Mike White will admit he doesn't know much about the North Greenville team his Golden Rams will play Saturday to kick off the 2013 season.
"We know they have a new staff," White says. "They have some of the personnel coming back from last year."
White says that has made scouting and preparing for the Crusaders a tougher task than normal.
But he and his team are focusing on what they do know: what the Golden Rams' game plan will be.
"We just have to come in and do what we do, and be ready for whatever," the 14th year head coach says. "You don't know a lot about their talent, who the quarterback is, or a whole lot about them. So you just make sure that you line up and know your lineup and assignments."
White says he has been pleased with how his team has progressed since the beginning of camp.
After the first day of camp in August, White said his team looked "sluggish."
But Tuesday, four days before the season, White was happy with his squad's night-to-day transformation.
"Believe me, when we first came out, it did not look good," he says. "But we're coming around. We're seeing our line and a lot of leadership guys grow up, paying attention to their assignments. So it's come a long way and we're looking better and better."
The Golden Rams open the 2013 season Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. in Tigerville, SC against the Crusaders.
