A new survey by Kiplinger ranks Georgia third in their top ten most tax-friendly states for retirees.
Social security income is exempt, along with most types of retirement income up to $35,000. If you are over 65 years old, the exemption jumps to $65,000 per taxpayer.
Georgia has an income tax, which is 6% on the higher end. State sales tax is 4%. Estates and inheritances get the free pass, as there is no tax on them.
