ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A South Georgia woman turned 100 years young Saturday. Annie Lee Hand grew up in the town of Sassar. Saturday, friends and family celebrated her life with a special birthday bash.

Annie Lee Hand's family and friends went all in to give her the biggest birthday party yet. She was overjoyed with love on her special day.

"I feel great and thank the Lord for being here to make it to 100," said Annie Lee Hand.

Hand was born in 1913, and has lived in the same house her entire life. She's experienced her share of ups and downs.

"My grandma is my inspiration and she is my shero. My grandmother is a double amputee. She had her first amputation at the age of 88," said L'Tanga Johnson, granddaughter.

Her family says through it all, she remained a strong woman and deserves this extra special party.

"A person that is very independent. So losing her legs made her more determined to get things done and she always get things done," said L'Tanga Johnson, granddaughter.

In honor of Hand's 100th birthday, Mayor Cherry Howell proclaimed Saturday, "Annie Lee Hand Day" for the town of Sasser.

"Ms. Annie Lee has lived in Sasser her entire life. So I was very glad to come. It's not often you get to come to a hundred year old celebration and for one who lived in Sasser their whole life," said Mayor Cherry Howell.

Hand was also presented with congressional honors from Congressman Sanford Bishop. President Obama and the first lady also sent her a letter giving her well wishes on her birthday.

A scholarship fund is named in Annie Lee Hand's honor. Next year, five high school students in South Georgia will be awarded with scholarships for college.
