Red Cross promotes Labor Day safety tips

The Flint River Chapter of the American Red Cross wants to remind you to stay safe over the Labor Day holiday.

Many folks consider Labor Day the final big holiday of the summer,  and lots of South Georgians enjoy it by grilling out.

The Red Cross supports fire victims in South Georgia and doesn't want Labor Day cookouts to end tragically.

Flint River Chapter Executive Director Lara Gill said "It's just common sense things. Things like make sure your grill is not too close to your house, or to anything flammable. Trees for that matter. Don't add lighter fluid to coals that are already lit. And keep you children and your pets away from a hot grill."

Labor Day is also often a big weekend for swimming.

The Red Cross urges everyone to remember not to swim alone and always supervise children swimming.
