Chehaw sees reduction in funding from city

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Commissioners voted to reduce the money taxpayers give to Chehaw.

The Park will get a million dollars next year, but starting in 2015, the city will reduce its funding by 3% a year. Chehaw leaders say they're glad they're still getting strong support from the city.

"I think what really helps us, for them to have the confidence to say we're going to support you for another five years, could have been a lot worse, if they cut us 10%, 20%, 25% that would have been a real problem for us," said Doug Porter, Chehaw Executive Director.

City funding for Chehaw will drop to about $880,000 a year by the end of the contract in 2019.
