Peanut salmonella trial delayed

Posted: Updated:
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The trial of four former Peanut Corporation of America executives charged in connection with a nationwide salmonella outbreak has been delayed until February 10, 2014.

The trial was scheduled for October 7th in Albany Federal Court but was pushed back because attorneys are still involved in the discovery process.

Former CEO of the company Stewart Parnell, peanut broker Michael Parnell, and two other managers face 76 charges stemming from a 2009 salmonella outbreak linked to a plant in Blakely.

It prompted the largest food recall in the nation's history after contaminated peanut butter sickened more than 700 people and may have contributed to nine deaths.
